Jerry Springer, legendary talk show host, dead at 79

Jerry Springer was best known for "The Jerry Springer Show," in which guests loudly, and at times violently, meted out their own brand of justice over 27 seasons.

Legendary talk show host and former Cincinnati mayor Jerry Springer has died, a family spokesperson announced Thursday morning. He was 79. 

According to multiple media reports, a family spokesperson said Springer had been diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and his condition worsened this week. He died at his home in the Chicago area.

Springer was best known for "The Jerry Springer Show," in which guests loudly, and at times violently, meted out their own brand of justice over 27 seasons. Springer started his career as a lawyer in Cincinnati and served as the city's mayor and as a political pundit.
